Safe Practice

• Keep clear of the cliffs – It is recommended to keep a distance of 8+ metres from the base of cliffs and to wear a hard hat if near to them to avoid injury from any falling rocks
• Muddy Sand – Even though it may look dry and cracked, mud that is set on the beach can quickly become wet and sticky. Be careful to stay on secure ground.
• Check Tide Times – Particularly at Saltwick Bay, you can find yourself engrossed in Fossil Hunting to find you are in a section of the beach that gets cut off when the tide comes in. Make sure you know when high tide and low tide is. You can use this website: www.tideschart.com
• Bring Appropriate Tools – A hammer and a chisel will get you very far when Fossil Hunting, be sure to remember safety goggles when chiselling in case any fragments fly off when doing so
